Spalding's Trade-Marked bats were first introduced in 1877, and they have gradually grown in popularity until now they are used almost exclusively by all prominent professional and amateur players. The demand for different styles and lengths of bats has changed as the batting and pitching rules have changed. Our models have changed so from year to year that bats of the present are very different from those of a few years since. We have adopted an entirely new set of models for 1889, and each crate of our trade-marked bats has four different models and as many different lengths. All timber used in these bats is allowed to season from one to two years before being turned, and the result is we are enabled to make much lighter and stronger bats than when timber is hastily "kiln-dried," as done by all |
